When can I wear a bra without holes cut out for nipples for inverted nipple repair?

Question

I had mastopexy (anchor cut) with augmentation and bilateral inverted nipple repair on 10/12/17. The surgical bra I was given has become extremely uncomfortable and I'm not near my surgeon to get a new one. He cut holes in the surgical bra to relieve pressure off of my nipples. I would like to avoid cutting holes in any new bras I buy if possible and was wondering how long I would need to wait or if there are any other wound dressing techniques I could utilize?

Because your surgeon is familiar with your specific case, even if you are not nearby, you should call and talk to him about your concerns, and ask him for alternate options. Each surgeon has their own protocol for healing, and you want to make sure you follow the instructions of your surgeon to ensure best results.

Best to ask your surgeon to determine what he would want you to wear. Sometimes a small bolster  of dressing internally can help minimize pressure on the nipple.

I usually use a pad as the others have described so that you don't have to alter all your bras.  Of course, check with your surgeon first.  You could probably do this over the phone if you are too far away for a visit.  By the way, your bra looks fairly tight, which might be some of the reason you're uncomfortable.

Ask your surgeon if you could use foam with a hole cut in it for your nipple.  This way you could wear it with your bra and still have protection.
