Can I have elective surgery after a kidney transplant?

I am 14 months, postop kidney transplant, and I am wanting to have some cosmetic procedures done. The reason for the kidney transplant is due to polycystic kidneys. I have no other medical conditions. I am wanting a tummy tuck and or Lipo BBL with a breast lift, my transplant team has given me the OK to get the procedures done but one surgery center that I was looking at in. Tampa told me I was not a good candidate for there location. Is surgery an option for me ?

Each plastic surgeon &mdash; and sometimes each surgical facility &mdash; will have its own policies, so there is not a simple yes-or-no answer to your question.
Transplant recipients do carry a somewhat higher risk of complications, including potential stress on the transplanted organ, although serious problems remain uncommon. Because cosmetic surgery is elective, surgeons typically maintain a higher safety threshold and some may be cautious about proceeding.
If your transplant specialist feels the risk is acceptable, that is a positive factor and will help guide decision-making.
I would recommend approaching this thoughtfully:
• Schedule several in-person consultations with experienced plastic surgeons in your area who routinely perform the procedures you are considering.• Understand that combining multiple procedures into a single operation can increase risk; in some cases staging surgery into two separate procedures may be safer, though this depends on the individual situation.• Ask your transplant physician for a written medical clearance &mdash; bringing this to consultations can be very helpful.
During consultations, it is also useful to bring standardized photographs of yourself. These help when comparing your anatomy to before-and-after results. Ask surgeons to show examples of patients with similar age, body characteristics, and goals rather than relying on memory alone.
There can be significant variation in experience, judgment, and aesthetic outcomes between providers. Meeting with multiple surgeons and carefully reviewing their results is one of the most important steps in achieving a good outcome.
