I have large amount of fluid after having a large lipoma removed a week and a half out. What can I do?

I had a very large lipoma removed below my neck. I had a drain but it did not work well and it had to be removed 2 days after. I have a lot of fluid still collecting and leaking out of my whole from the drain. My surgon told me he is not sure what to do with my issue. The pressure causes me pain so much i don't feel the pain from my insticstion. I am at a loss for what to do and i think my dr. is to any help would be apprciated.

I would say in most cases, aspiration of the fluid with a syringe and needle would eventually resolve the fluid collection you have after removal of your lipoma.  This aspiration may need to be repeated and a compression bandage would be helpful if possible.  Your surgeon should be able to perform the aspiration and place the bandage.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your lipoma recovery issues.  There are many options to help treat a developing fluid collection and these include - compression, aspiration, closed suction drain, packing, etc.  In most cases of a recent surgery aspiration of the fluid and a pressure dressing can work but if after several treatments no resolution is had, another drain should be placed.  Talk to your surgeon and establish a game plan, if they have none, seek a second opinion.
