Can Fillers Get Rid of Permanent Indentation from Dimpleplasty? (photo)

Question

I had dimpleplasty over 2 months ago now. I was told the permanence of the dimples would be gone within the month and it hasn't happened. The doctor keeps telling me to wait, but I don't think they will disappear further. I have permanent dimples/indentations in my face even when I am not smiling. Will fillers in the areas of indentation help with the craters? Is this a good solution? I also have permanent scarring on the outside of the dimples as well. Will laser surgery fix this?

Fillers in the area will help smooth the indentations at rest if you cannot wait on your healing.  You are only 2 months out from surgery and your body is continuing to heal.  I would continue to wait to see if the dimpling will improve over the next couple of months before undergoing more procedures.  If you cannot wait, a hyaluranic acid filler can be placed temporarly to help smooth the dimple while at rest.  

	 

	As far as your scarring, you are again still healing.  I would ensure that you are using a good sunscreen, scar cream, and you may need an injection of medicine if the scar is not behaving properly.  I would talk to your doctor about this, but the scar will continue to improve over the next year.

It is reasonable to give the area more time to mature in the form of remodeling of the tissue after surgery. It may take at least 6 months or more for that to happen. At that point, a filler injection would help reduce the prominence of the dimple and/or a percutaneous needle lysis of the attachment of the skin to the underlying tissue may be needed. You should keep in close contact with your surgeon.  Sometimes it takes some time for the dimples to become dynamic (only visible with smiling).  If you are unhappy, you may consider attempting to reverse the dimple in order to help it become more dynamic.  Please consult with your original surgeon.
