If you have a fat transfer when you’re younger, 33, how will the fat transfer in your cheeks change after you hit menopause? Should you wait for a fat transfer until after menopause?

It has been our experience in over 25 years of fat transfer to face, that it takes  9-12 months, sometimes longer, to see how much of injected volume would survive and mature. Fat that patient retains after that time is her (his) own and behaves like any other fat in patient's body. However, in the process of aging, fat volume loss in some areas of the face may be significant and it progresses very likely after age of forty or so. Fat transfer to face is relatively simple procedure in the hands of an expert and can be repeated after few years in areas where it may be needed. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with significant experience in facial rejuvenation with fat grafting is recommended. Good luck.

Transferred fat, once taken, acts exactly like normal fat. Therefore, it does not matter when you have a fat transfer if you have a volume loss. If your body is losing fat, it may continue to do so, no matter what your age. Make sure you see a plastic surgeon who is experienced in fat grafting.
