Did he take enough fat from flanks?

Question

Hi, there is no change and serious bruising. I got laser lipo done three days ago with the aim to get rid of my pooch and flanks. Three days later and I have serious bruising in my pelvic area- pooch is gone but my flanks appear bigger! Do you think he didn’t do the flanks at all?

At 3 days post-op you are still experiencing a lot of swelling and it is too early to see your results.  You should be wearing a compression garment at all times for minimally a month after your procedure - this is going to aid in the healing process and also maximize your results.  Once the swelling comes down and your new "figure" is more defined you will have a better idea of how your results look.  Continue to go to your scheduled follow-ups and address any concerns you may have with your surgeon.

If you are unhappy with your results please speak to your physician and ensure he was a full body VASER HD liposuction physciain wtih expensive experience in body shaping and not just traditional fat reduction.  At this point you should be using compression, RF treatments like venus legacy / exilis ultra / inmode forma or contoura and lymphatic massage to get you through healing.   We always add shock wave therapy such as cellutone, z wave, and eclipse evive to help prvent scar tissue formation and ensure an even and smooth result. It will take 6-12 months to see the final outcome.   If you are unhappy you can get a revision procedure by an expert in VASER HD lipo.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hello there! I would not be concerned at this time. Liposuction takes time to heal, and you are likely very swollen at this time. Bruising always "falls" to the lowest point, so bruising where you are seeing it is very normal. I would not expect to see changes for at least several weeks, with improvements continuing to be seen for up to 6 months. Cheers! Sarah RN BSN

The flank area is usually slower to respond to liposuction, compared to the abdominal area. This is because this area is more fibrous (you can easily feel the difference between the fat in the abdominal area compared to the flank area). it can often take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to start to see the difference in the flank area. You will continue to improve for 6 months after Smartlipo, so you need to be patient. Also you already have a very good figure so it can take longer for someone like you to see a difference, compared to someone who is much heavier. Bruising is not uncommon and is just a reflection of a small amount of bleeding in the soft tissue. it will go away in 2-3 weeks.david berman md

on your recent procedure...The procedure of liposuction is an "insult"
to the soft tissues, resulting in swelling which will initially totally obscure
the operative result. 
The
purpose of a compression garment is to prevent bleeding and to control
swelling. We usually recommend its use for the first 4-6 weeks after the
procedure. 
60-80%
of the swelling should subside within the first 6 weeks, with the remainder
slowly subsiding over 6-12 months. 
Continue
followup care with your plastic surgeon...It is still far too early to assess the operative result!

Dear Blondie,Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Based on your photos, I can see a difference, but I understand your concern. I suggest that you wait 3-6 months for the swelling to subside before you make any decisions to repeat your liposuction. You may want to look into a body contouring procedure that combines both liposuction with laser, radiofrequency (RF), or acoustic therapy to produce the best balance of fat reduction and skin tightening and smoothing for your body type and anatomy. We use a proprietary technique that we call IDEAL Liposuction. First off, all devices and instruments used are FDA-approved. These procedures are usually performed in the office, with only local anesthesia. We typically use Smart / Laser Liposuction or ultrasound to reduce dense, fibrous fat, and stimulate collagen formation; Radiofrequency-based skin tightening to maximize skin contraction; and Ultrasound, RF, or subcision (Z Wave, Venus, Cellfina) to treat cellulite. Patients go home the same day as surgery, do not need any narcotics postop for pain control, and can return to light exercise and work two days after their procedure. In my practice, we select the appropriate treatment for each patient based on their skin quality, amount of fat and surgical goals. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure.
