Will this look normal at some point? It’s 2.5 weeks old now. Had laser lipo a few weeks ago. My doc said I have a burn from it because fat was hard to get out.

Answer: Laser Injury Thank you for sharing your photo. It would appear from the photo that you have a thermal injury to the umbilicus. I would hope that you returned to your surgeon to show him same. If your doctor has not made a suggestion regarding treatment beyond application of a cream called Silvadene, then I would suggest that you consider consultation at a wound clinic. There they will be able to excise the dead tissue and offer special dressings to help speed the healing process. Hope this finds you improving.

Answer: This will heal fine It is very unusual to get a burn from Smartlipo, especially if you went to a board certified plastic surgeon. However, it can happen. Your burn is small and it should heal with no problem. You do NOT need hyperbaric oxygen for such a small injury - i think that is a ridiculous suggestion. You just need to do local wound care, such as cleaning it 2-3 times per day with half strength hydrogen peroxide and a topical antibiotic cream such as Silvadene. Your doctor should see you once every 7-10 days to keep an eye on it. david berman md

Answer: Laser liposuction burn Hi and welcome to our forum! Laser liposuction burns are unusual, but they do occur. Treatment consists of debridement of non-viable tissues followed by a regimen of intensive local wound care. One looks for the development of granulation tissue, a beefy red vascular tissue, to develop, after which time the wound will begin to shrink and seal. Wounds of this nature may take 8 weeks or so to seal and a year to heal (lose redness and firmness). After the scar has matured and its final appearance known, revision is considered if the scar proves unfavorable. It is far too early to make this determination. Continue followup with your plastic surgeon. Best wishes...
