Can I use ice to bring down the swelling around my eyes? How long till the swelling go down ?

At this point, ice will not make much difference. Sleep with you head elevated, and avoid salt. You may continue to have swelling for several more weeks. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon and be sure to follow all post operative instructions. Good luck.

Hello, thank you for the question! At this point in healing, warm compresses would be more beneficial than icing. You will continue to see improvements over the next several months with swelling, so try to stay patient. Good luck!

It's always best to check with your surgeon that performed the procedure but generally my patients will use a cold compress in the beginning and then by 6 to 14 days they are looking pretty good. Final results are best judged by month 12.
I encourage my patients to come back many times for follow up during the first year so we can track progress and answer questions etc...

The slight swelling will continue to improve and may take a few months to fully resolve. At this point in healing, ice may have little benefit. Warm compresses would be more helpful. The under eye area can be helped by slight pressure and gentle massage to help alleviate any fluid that might be contributing to the swelling. Best of luck to you in healing.

Dear Zibaroo5, Thank you for your question. I usually instruct my patients to use a cold saline compress as opposed to ice, to prevent from putting too much pressure on the areas. However, every surgeon has their own specific recommendations, so I suggest following up with them. The final results of your operation cannot be judged for months, it is important to be patient with your results. Best of luck to you.

Ice may help to reduce swelling when used the first few days after the surgery.  But after about 4 days, it has little benefit.  Warm compresses are better at that stage as they will increase the blood flow to help eliminate any inflammatory cells that are present.  Some massage can also help decrease the swelling.  

Yes, Ice will help reduce the swelling after facial surgery. Just be careful not to burn you skin with it.

Hello,It is possible to exprience having some residual swelling a few months after surgery. It should not be a significant amount . Ice  applying will probably not help you. You need to follow up your surgeon and given instructions.Good Luck

Hello and thank you for your question. It is possible to have residual swelling even a month after surgery. It should not be a significant amount though. Unfortunately this late after surgery ice will probably not help that much. It is possible to get a lymphatic drainage massage that may help. It is best for you to follow closely with your plastic surgeon who can guide you through your post op course.

So yes ice is a good idea. What you are experiencing is entirely normal so soon after a facelift. Very occasionally the swelling can last 8 to 12 weeks. There are things that we can do including ice packs and sometimes even steroid injections. My advice to you is to try and sleep a little more upright, use ice packs but only carefully where the sensation is diminished and go back and see your plastic surgeon and ask how they think things are progressing.
