It really varies depends on the extend of your eyelid surgery, whether it is just skin excision, or suture blepharoplasty, or levator surgery. There are many variety of procedures that are done on the eyelids. And not all have bruising, some procedures there are no bruising actually. Typically, if any, most bruising go away within one week of surgery.
It's not unusual for patients to have bruising and swelling following blepharoplasty surgery. In most cases, this resolves in one to two weeks following surgery. In rare cases, bruising may last for up to 4 to 6 weeks following surgery.During this period of time, it's important to maintain close contact with your plastic surgeon. Your surgeon should be able to reassure you and alleviate your anxiety.
Most bruising resolves in about a week, but residual bruising can last for several weeks depending on your rate of healing. Refrain from exercise and heavy lifting for at least a week after surgery for minimal bruising. You can also cover it up a bit with concealer after your stitches have been removed (in about a week or so).
I agree with Dr. Ip, most patients heal relatively quickly after eyelid surgery, and the bruising and swelling should be nearly resolved after 7-10 days in most cases. If excessive bruising occurred after surgery, it may take a little longer. Sometimes olive skin will discolor even after the bruising is gone. This is a different situation. The discoloration, or hyperpigmentation can take several months, and sometimes up to a year to resolve in some situations. You can generally tell if you are susceptible to this if you get a small scratch, and it turns dark and takes forever to go away. Hope this helps!
Bruising is expected after eyelid surgery and it usually resolves after 7 to 10 days. Persistent bruising and discoloration of the soft tissues can occur. There is really no magic cure as this will ultimately resolve on its own. Occasionally alternating warm and cool compresses can help as well as on over the counter herbal product, Bromelean. The usual antibruising dose is 500 mg twice a day between meals.
