Hello,The lump you feel may be related to fat necrosis but may also be related to swelling and contour irregularities related to liposuction. I recommend that you see your plastic surgeon in person for an exam and recommendations.All the best 

I am sorry to hear about the problem you are experiencing. Fat necrosis can present as an area of firmness; it may or may not be associated with pain.Areas of fat necrosis can be treated surgically;  nonsurgical management is an option also. If the area of fat necrosis is small, it may take a few weeks or months to dissipate;  for larger areas, it may take several months (or longer).  Sometimes, patients will experience drainage as the unhealthy tissue liquefies and makes its way out.
 The important part of this process is close follow-up with your plastic surgeon, who may able to help with judicious debridement debridement ( surgical removal of unhealthy tissue).  Whether or not surgical intervention is indicated is a clinical judgment that only he/she can make after physical examination and consideration of your progress/concerns.

sometimes when fat is manipulated or had liposuction or surgery around it, it can get very firm and even calcify. it presents as a firm lump. It will never turn into a cancer. it is not usually visible but you can feel a firm lump. sometimes, there is swelling around it so that it can often get much smaller over time. it can sometimes be tender or sore but that will usually go away with time. They can be surgically removed but most of the time they require NO treatment. Your plastic surgeon should be able to give you a good idea if that what it is when he examines you.david berman md
