My surgery is in 9 days and I am concerned that my anxiety gets worse post op. I also have heart palpitations some days less, some days more, usually after meals. My blood tests have always been fine, 1year ago I went to a cardiologist and he did ECG and ECHO, they were fine. Few weeks ago I got panic attack and went to ER, my ECG did show: occasional supraventicular premature complexes and incomplete right bundle branch block. Could this be due anxiety? I have had no problems with heart before.
Answer: Pre Op Anxiety Hello,Thank you for your question. If your Plastic Surgeon has any concern about your heart health prior to surgery, they will likely order an ECG. Many people find surgery to be stressful and existing anxiety problems can be made worse with worry. I recommend that you share how you are feeling with your Plastic surgeon and be sure to ask all your questions. Talking about all of your concerns and removing the mystery can help you feel more calm about the process. Understand what the recovery process will be prepared with time off work and help at home. You may try exercise, meditation, aromatherapy etc. in order to help you stay calm. All the best

Answer: Anxiety, heart palpitations and breast augmentation. Although online consultants will be able to provide you with advice relevant to your specific situation, some general thoughts may be helpful to you:Anxiety prior to surgery is very normal; its complete elimination is usually not possible. Assuming you have chosen your plastic surgeon carefully, other important "variables" such as anesthesia provider and surgery facility will be selected based on everyone's first priority: safety. This careful selection should give you some peace of mind that you will be safe around the time of surgery. Discuss your specific areas of concerns with your plastic surgeon who will be in the best position to help you calm your nerves. Obtaining "medical clearance" from your family practitioner or internist may also help when it comes to alleviating anxiety. I ask my patients to try to be as calm as possible prior to surgery; this “calmness" tends to translate to a smoother postoperative course. You may be able to alleviate some pre operative anxiety with music, exercise, meditation, a glass of wine (if ok with your surgeon), and positive/objective focus on the long term outcome/benefits etc. prior to your procedure. Generally, patients find that they did “get worked up for nothing” after their recovery is completed. I hope this helps.

Answer: Anxiety, heart palpitations and breast augmentation. Hello CDN.It's hard to say the cause without examining you. I would suspect this is due to your panic attacks and high anxiety due to your upcoming breast augmentation surgery. This operation is extremely safe and you should let your plastic surgeon know about your ED visit as soon as you can. Your plastic surgeon will have to determine if you can move forward with surgery when they consider your symptoms and anxiety issues. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)

Answer: Panic Attacks Panic attacks are common before breast implant surgery and they are often associated with palpitations. Occasional premature atrial contractions are often associated with caffeine so certainly avoid coffee and colas before and after your surgery. Ask your surgeon about the RBBB. Also, ask your plastic surgeon for one of the many panic attack medications available by prescription and use them according to the provided instructions. Elective cosmetic surgery is stressful, and anxiety is the norm.
