Follow-up: Emotions during a rhinoplasty recovery, is this normal?

I posted a couple weeks back with concerns about my nose after rhinoplasty I didn't think it looked right with my face but now it is settling nicer and can manage some good photos! Is it common for people to feel these strange emotions like they've done something wrong to their face, although their nose looks perfect, and also to get anxiety after a procedure? I am beginning to accept and like my new nose, but the roller coaster of emotions I have felt have been very surprising during recovery

Very good of you to recognize this! And your nose looks fantastic, by the way. 
It is not unusual for some people to go through a period of depression after surgery. No matter how much they wanted the operation beforehand and how much they were informed about what to expect postoperatively, patients are concerned when they see their face/ nose swollen and, perhaps discolored from bruising.
It's important to remain patient and realize that this is a temporary condition, which will typically subside in a matter of weeks. The best “treatment” consists of busying yourself with the details of post-operative care and trying to divert your attention to other thoughts (T.V., a book, an unhurried walk in a peaceful place, etc...).  
The emotional rollercoaster is real. It can be scary, but you'll eventually end up back at the station.

Hello,Emotions about changing your face are incredibly normal after a tremendous surgery like this. The face, especially the nose, is the focal point of what you look at when you look in the mirror. When you change your nose, you have to adjust to what your new face and nose looks like together. We have met several patients  over the years who have had very nice postoperative rhinoplasty results but had severe insecurity about their nasal and facial appearances.
 The fact that you are feeling better is a very good sign.  In all likelihood, based on your photos, your nose will feel like your own,  and you will be pleased  by three months postoperative or sooner. Hope this helps! Dr. Joseph.

Hi there,First of all congrats on your surgery, the outcome looks really nice!Secondly thanks for putting up your feelings clearly.Many patient would agree that they feel anxious after their rhinoplasty surgeries especially but they usually suppress their emotions and wait them to go away.This feelings are very normal and sensable since you have an image, basically you see yourself in the same way for years.. In pictures, in the mirror everyday. A certain amount of temporary "buyer's remorse" is normal in the early postoperative period. I experienced it myself as an otoplasty patient. You have a very nice & natural appearing result there -- enjoy it!

Based on the pictures posted. You have an excellent result fro rhinoplasty on a very attractive young face. Emotional reaction to cosmetic surgery is normal and needs support by the doctor the office and the family and friends. Nothing wrong with seeking professional help for a brief period of time if needed.

Your feelings are so common that I routinely mention this potential to patients. Recovery and adaption to a new appearance both take time and, in the interim, there is routinely anxiety.

Yes, it is quite common to feel a bit out of sorts after surgery. This is common with post-op pain, swelling, bruising, and looking a bit differently.  Most people feel better and adjust as the swelling etc, goes away.
