Hello and thanks for your question. ResurFX is an excellent choice for skin rejuvenation for many patients due to its ability to treat a broad range of concerns. Because the device uses both intense pulsed light and non-ablative laser light to heat the inner dermal structure, it does leave the skin somewhat more vulnerable to UV exposure. However, the great aspect of this laser is that sunscreen and makeup can be applied the next day, so you can resume your normal activities and protect the skin right away. These treatments are done in our office all year round. As long as you can commit to excellent sun protection, these treatments are safe and effective. Also, if you have major events on the horizon, I would give yourself at least two weeks between your treatment and the occasion to ensure side effects have fully subsided.

Because lasers and IPL use light energy to improve skin tone and texture, your skin will be much more sensitive to UVA/UVB radiation during the weeks following treatment. For patients who lead busy, active lives, this means that summer can be a risky time of year to undergo the ResurFX treatment. Exposing laser-treated skin to the sun can lead to rashes or hyper-pigmentation.

Hi karltucker, We always tell our patients who are going to undergo ResurFx to stay out of the sun for 2-3 days and to wear sunscreen. Lasers affect the upper layers of the skin and induce collagen formation underneath. That said, the best time would be in autumn or winter. Just make sure you get to do it 1-2 weeks before a reunion or event. This way, you aren't red or peeling.All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
