Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Most scars can be improved. In Caucasians with pale skin, scars can be treated using multiple techniques, including fractionated lasers (CO2, Erbium, etc.): these are used over two or three courses so as to even out the raised areas but so as not to create lighter skin. If a scar is thickened or raised, a surgeon will thin it out for you first and then use a laser. Always photograph your scars before and after your treatment and take the photographs at different angles with and without a flash so that one can improve the scars in all lighting conditions. Other techniques are sometimes used where scar lines are broken up; sometimes, nano fat grafts are used with or without the laser; and at other times, the whole upper lip area is treated to give an even result. These will be discussed with you by your plastic surgeon. See a local plastic surgeon: he/she will be able to help you.
You can have some micro-needling to help minimize the scar and improve the skin overall under local anesthesia.
