Is it necessary to tape the nose tip after rhinoplasty? (Photo)

Question

Hello, is it neccessary to tape the tip after rhinoplasty? I want my tip to drop asap and fee by taping it, i look quite piggy in the morning. Any advice here would be much appreciated.

Excellent question. In my practice we typically have patients tape their nose at night once the splint comes off at the one week postoperative appointment. This traditionally is done for about 6 weeks nightly to aid in postoperative rebound swelling, specifically in the tip. I would certainly advise taping. However, this should be discussed with the surgeon that performed your procedure, as they're familiar with your particular anatomy and the amount of cartilage work you had done. I have some of my patient use tape after rhinoplasty routinely, and others I do not have them tape at all. It is based on how thick the skin is, what was done surgically, etc. I also, always show my patients exactly where and how to apply the tape. Your tip is in an excellent location, but there is some swelling below it-- which can effect how projected and rotated the tip appears. I would either wait or contact your surgeon to see if taping is correct for you. If you were my patient, I would not have you tape-- based on this one photo.
