2 years post op - what can this red bump on my nose be and is swelling common this far out? (photos)

I had an open rhino 2 years ago and have had no aftercare whatsoever ever from my surgeon. I’ve had a hard bump on the side of my nose for a few months which is hard but doesn’t move. I’ve noticed it’s not grown but it’s gone red. What could this be? I can see it when I look in the mirror. I also think my tip is still really swollen, can I be this swollen still after 2 years?

I think it may be cartilage since it is firm to the touch and doesn't move. Since you are two years after your surgery and since you have relatively thin skin, I do not think there is a significant amount of swelling left in your nose. Please consider bringing these concerns to your rhinoplasty specialist, or consider getting a second opinion. Hope this helps! Dr Joseph

Hello! Thank you for your question.From the photos you provided your nose looks great. Anyway the tip looks really round and bulbous from front. If when you touch it it is hard it may be cartilage but I cannot say anything without face-to-face consultation. Best regards!

There are many possible reasons for the bump on the nose this late after surgery; a deep scar or portion of cartilage should be considered first. Only on the basis of in person evaluation, a board certified plastic surgeon, expert in rhinoplasty, may give you better idea about the cause and how to treat it. Good luck.
