Will palpable permanent suture come through skin after facelift? (Photo)

Thank you for your question. It’s not uncommon for patients to feel the presence of permanent sutures after a facelift, especially if they are located near the surface of the skin. In most cases, this is not a cause for concern, and the sutures are usually designed to remain in place permanently to help support the skin. However, if the suture becomes exposed or starts to protrude from the skin, it can be safely removed.
If the suture is still under the skin and not causing any discomfort or visible issues, there’s no need to worry—it doesn’t require any immediate action. However, if it becomes more noticeable or begins to poke through the skin in the future, it can be easily removed with a small local anesthetic procedure. This can be done in a quick, minimally invasive way, and it's a routine procedure that can be performed without complications.

Permanent sutures, as the name implies will not go away with time. These deep sutures are holding the elevated tissue in place to create the rejuvenation. It sounds as though your surgery was somewhat recent. I would not recommend removing sutures close tot he time of surgery unless they are causing a significant problem. The sutures are unlikely to erode through the skin, but can remain palpable and visible forever. If it doesn't bother you then no need to remove it.

It is great you have good communication with your surgeon. If there are permanent sutures, these are usually surrounded by scar tissue and usually feels like a little "bump", when they are uncomfortable., it can be removed with local anesthesia being barely noticeable, it is not common they come out by itself. My advice is keeping in touch with your surgeon so he can give you what will be the best in your case.
