I have a bulge above my scar and dog ears but surgeon said it was normal and I just need to exercise. He said he couldn't do lipo on my hips as this is a different procedure and would have to come back if I want it done.
Answer: Post op Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon to have some fullness above the scar for several reasons. There will be some natural swelling that will take several months and up to a year to settle. However, there will also naturally be a difference in the subcutaneous tissue thickness above the scar vs below where your pelvic bone is. Your surgeon will be able to determine the cause on exam.

Answer: Bulge Dear Gregarious759079, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. Answer: Addressing Bulge Above Tummy Tuck Scar and Dog Ears Concerns Thank you for your question regarding the bulge above your tummy tuck scar and the presence of dog ears. I appreciate you providing pictures to help assess the situation. It can be challenging to determine the exact nature of the bulge without further diagnostic imaging. I would recommend getting an ultrasound or an MRI to better understand what you are dealing with. This bulge could potentially be due to scar tissue, a fluid collection like a seroma, or residual fat. Each of these conditions would require a different treatment approach. For example: Scar Tissue: Specialized liposuction using a scar-specific cannula might help. Seroma or Fluid Collection: Surgical drainage may be necessary to resolve this issue. Residual Fat: Additional liposuction in the area might be indicated. Muscle Weakness: If there is muscle weakness, further tightening from the belly button to the pubic region might be needed. It would be helpful to know if your muscle was sewn during your tummy tuck as this information could change the recommended approach. Regarding the dog ears at the ends of your scar, these can typically be corrected quite easily in the office under local anesthesia. This procedure would trim the excess skin to create a smoother contour along the incision line. Given your concerns, I recommend following up with your surgeon or seeking a second opinion from another board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate these issues in person and provide a tailored solution based on a detailed examination and diagnostic results. Good luck, and I hope this information helps guide you towards a successful resolution of your concerns post-tummy tuck. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FASMBS, FICS Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeon

Answer: Tummy tuck revision Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photographs, these areas could be improved with a revision procedure. Liposuction can be performed on the flanks for improved contour. The area of central fullness above the incision could likely be debulked. Your surgeon should be able to help with this. If they are not able to help, then I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Results Though a bit more time is needed before considering further interventions, you may have improvement in your results with a revision. Liposuction can be done to bring down the fullness of the hips. If the bulge above the low incision is excess fatty tissue then liposuction should improve it.
