Are my areola/nipples in the right position? (Photos)

Question

I had breast lift surgery with implants last year. However everytime i wear low cut tops or bras my areolas show. Is this normal or something that’s gone wrong with the surgery?

Hi, thank you for sharing your question. In the setting of implants + lift, the areolas will tend to stretch with time due to the projection of the implants. Gortex sutures may help but there is no guaranteed solution.

It often hard to tell from a photograph, but it seems you are nipples are in very good position in relation to the implants. Surgically, this can be a difficult problem because patients of course wear different styles of clothes.

It does appear that you Nipple-Areolar-Complexes are in the most maximally projecting point on the breast. There is a condition called pseudo ptosis where NAC's raise higher than average and tend to show in low cut tops. You do not appear to have this.

From the photo you submitted, it certainly seems as though everything is ok- the areola is centered on the breast.  The lateral photo really helps assess better the location of areola onto the breast and implant.  I hope that helps!!

Your photo suggests your nipples are in a good position relative to the breast mound. If your areolas show above your bra, you still may want to modify this. Consult with your surgeon for an evaluation and discussion of options.

The normal position for the nipple/areola complex should be slightly above the inframammary fold. When performing a breast lift, that’s where the markings are made so that the nipple ends up facing forward and is above the level of your inframammary fold.  Without the benefit of a direct physical examination, it appears that your nipple/areola complex is appropriately positioned, although your areola to be slightly wide.  As it is very difficult to move the areola downward, you may ask your plastic surgeon about areolar reduction or you may need to make some fashion changes to address the concern that you have.

a lot goes into planning the nipple position , without making measurements it's hard for me to weigh in wether yours were positioned in the correct location. That being said , the most common location for nipple positioning is pitanguy's point which is located by finding the point on the anterior breast that corresponds to the (IMF) the fold under the breast at the meridian (the midpoint horizontally of the breast), if your nipple corresponds to the fold then they should be close to where they are supposed to be positioned.I hope this helps , best of luck!
