After 10 years a stitch has now pierced my skin. Should this happen?

I had this procedure over 10 years ago and have always had pain in my breast. A lump appeared and grew large so I went to the doctors and have been referred to have it checked. But yesterday I felt a sharp pain in my breast and found a sharp object peircing my skin and poking out. I’ve been to a and e or have given me antibiotics as I have a bad infection and I’ve been referred to a breast specialist. But surely this should not have happened?

I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Any permanent stich can try to work out of the body at any time. The dissolvable stiches are long gone.  Since it is sticking out, it needs to be completely removed.
