Is it safe to take 800mg of vitamin E to prevent CC?

If
your surgeon recommended that you take 800mg of vitamin E, then I would trust his
or her advice. However, if you’re choosing to take vitamin E on your own, I
would wait and check with your doctor before starting. Certain vitamins (A, D,
E, K) are considered fat-soluble, meaning that they are stored in your body
differently than water-soluble vitamins. The difference is that excess
fat-soluble vitamins are not excreted through your urinary system, which means
that excessive intake can build up in your body and cause health problems.
Because of this, I would suggest checking with your physician before putting
yourself on any dietary program.

Hello Blue. I have my patients take a similar dose and for about the same time period of time. However, I don't think you should self-medicate. You should speak to your plastic surgeon about your capsule concerns and be evaluated. A better medication for risk reduction for capsule contracture might be Singulair. You need to talk to your surgeon about the side effects and risks of any medication before proceeding. Best, Dr. ALDO

Sometimes you can put a patient on a medication to prevent capsules you can talk to your doctor about this. Hope this helps. 

Although, vitamin E can be used to help treat capsular contracture and a six week course is reasonable, check with your surgeon for their recommendations.  They may want to see you to document the amount of contracture you presently have.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
