I am 68 and have relatively deep static glabella lines and medium static melolabial folds. Is Voluma or Ultra Plus likely to be appropriate for the the glabella lines, and how many ml? What type of Juvederm is likely to be appropriate for the melolabial folds, and how many ml? Thanks.

Answer: When To Use Filler For Glabella Lines My approach to deep glabella lines involves first making sure the muscles are adequately weakened with Botox. If deep lines still remain, then a superficial filler is used to further improve the appearance. This area requires advanced injection technique because of the blood vessels in the area. Juvederm Ultra Plus and Voluma are too bulky to be used in the glabella region. Instead I would consider Belotero, Restylane Silk, or Refyne. The amount needed would depend on an examination performed during your in-person consultation. Make sure you find an experienced physician to minimize complications. Best wishes.

Answer: Glabella lines and melolabial folds I would use a filler which is less dense than voluma or ultra plus in the glabellar lines. There are larger blood vessels which run under that area towards the eye and complications include vision changes due to filler being injected incorrectly into the blood vessels. My preference in that area is to inject within the skin away from the larger blood vessels with very careful technique. Using a filler which is meant for more superficial injection such as bellafill or beletero may be safer. The amount for your nasolabial folds depends on how deep the folds are. Some people may require up to 2-3mL. Once you begin injecting larger amounts, the area begins to appear firm and unnatural. There are other options besides filler to reduce the appearance of the folds. It is best to have an in-office examination to determine what would work best for you. Hope this helps!Johnson C.
