Emsculpt for diastasis recti? (Photo)

Question

Hi there, when seeking a consult for Emsculpt, the technician said wasn’t a candidate because she thought I had an umbilical hernia. It never occurred to me before but I think she is right and upon research and self examination, I also think I may well have diastasis recti. I’m not sure the best course of action from but I’ve actually read Emsculpt can help heal DR?? Thoughts?? Not sure where to start.

Thank you for your question and picture. EMSculpt can help reduce Diastasis Recti by 11% after a series of 4 treatments. From your picture it does appear than you have an umbilical hernia. Hernias in the area of treatment are a contraindication to EMSculpt. You will need your hernia repaired first. Make sure you see an experienced Surgeon. Best wishes.

Great question! Thanks for the photo since it does appear that there is an umbilical hernia present. Multiple studies have shown Emsculpt is great for helping diastasis recti but I would first recommend getting consultation with a general surgeon to see if the hernia should be fixed. Umbilical hernias can turn into serious medical problems if they are large and are left untreated so this should be your first concern. Once the surgeon has cleared you about the hernia, then I would suggest having Emsculpt done to improve your muscles. Best wishes, Mary Beth Mudd
