It appears my filler is outside my lip Line. This is Day 6. Is this swelling? (Photos)

Question

This is the 5th time I've had injections,with no problems in the past. This time everything just looks different. I can't tell if my upper lip is swollen or is that where the filler is? My lips look like the letter M (Cupid's bow far apart) Any advice. This is day 6. I have iced once daily.

This is overfill.  It needs to be adjusted back to earth.  I pray this was a hyaluronic acid filler.  If so, it can easily be adjusted with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down these fillers.  Other fillers cannot so easily be adjusted and for that reason are never recommended for the lip.

Thank you for your question. Yes. It is common to experience swelling for the first 1-2 weeks, and maybe longer depending on the patient and amount of injections. I suggest that you remain patient. Please keep to your post op care instructions provided by your board certified facial plastic surgeon.

Thank you for your question.Although swelling after injections is common, usually after 3-4 days the swelling is gone. By looking at your photos, I feel this is a placement issue. The filler was injected outside the border of your lip. I would recommend contacting your injector about this, to see how they can improve this result. You can also start massaging the lip to help dissolve the product faster. Good luck.

This looks like swelling and will get better. At two weeks, see your injector and be examined in the area to see if the swelling has resolved. An experienced injector should be able to tell you where the filler is in your lips. Good luck, Dr. ALDO

This could be due to swelling, which will resolve in 1-2 weeks. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time or a different filler.  Best, Dr. Emer

Hello, and thanks for your question. Post-filler swelling can take 1-2 weeks to fully subside, so it may be early to assess your final result. If you are not pleased with your final result, the product can be dissolved with injection of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Dear sailor hones:This appears to be a placement issue. I recommend you have hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler and then have your lips injected with placement in the pulp of the lip itself.  All the best,   Dr. Clark

Most of the swelling will subside. Continue to ice your lips daily. If by the second week, your lips look the same, then see your injector in order to evaluate whether the filler has been injected too superiorly to the lip border or vermillion border. If this was a hyaluronic acid filler (eg: juvederm, volbella, restylane), some of it can be eliminated with hyaluronidase. Best, Dr. Kate Kleydman.

This looks like the filler was improperly placed. I don't think that waiting the 10 days I usually tell patients will lead to a better result. I would suggest hyaluronidase for removal. My guess is that the injector used the technique of injecting from outside the lip but didn't get it right.

Hi, I have performed many lip augmentation procedures using dermal fillers or lip implants for over 30 years. From the photos, your upper lip is significantly larger than the lower with dermal filler above the vermillion border of the lip.  You may want to have the lip augmentation provider inject some hyaluronidase into the area to decrease some of the dermal filler.
 Following my beauty principles, the upper lip should be approximately 75 % the size of the lower lip for the lips to appear balanced. The lips can be augmented using a dermal filler or a Permalip implant.
Dermal filers and lip implants offer a much more reliable volume for augmentation of the lips than permanent fillers or fat injections which are associated with increased, unwanted, side effects.
