Phentermine is not a blood thinner, it is a diet medication. If you are off it for tens days you should be just fine. Good luck!
Hello abby h.,Thanks for your question.Phentermine does not act like a blood thinner, but it is a potential cardiac irritant. This can lead to problems under general anesthesia. We usually recommend 30 days off the medication prior to anesthesia. I would recommend that you speak to your surgeon and the anesthesiologist about this and see if they have any particular concerns. It may be safest to postpone your procedure.Good luck,Dr. Shah
The phentermine is not a blood thinner, but is an amphetamine that can make the heart more sensitive to medications, especially those used in the anesthesia. Please check with your surgeon and anesthesiologist to see if there is a restriction on how long before you should stop taking that medication.
It is very important to get clearance from your hematologist to be off blood thinners for 2 weeks before the surgery and 2 weeks after the surgery, to prevent a nose bleed situation. Your hematologist and your rhinoplasty surgeon should have discussions about the best care moving forward undergoing elective cosmetic surgery
Phentermine is an appetite suppressant, not a blood thinner. You shoulddiscuss what medications, supplements, and vitamins you are taking, bothprescription and over the counter, with your plastic surgeon and have him orher decide what you should and should not be taking. Your surgeon should becertified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of theAmerican Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). It is important tofollow all pre and post-operative instructions.Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California
Dear abbyh. Phentermine is a appetite suppressant and does not act as a blood thinning medication. The usage of phentermine could increase your blood pressure which can potentially cause more bleeding. You would not want to take phentermine after your surgery for the same reason. In my practice I have a pre-operative sheet that lists the patients medications and these are reviewed by the anesthesiologist. The patient is then advised of what medications they can remain taking and which medications will be stopped. As well as the dates to return to any over the counter medications like vitamins etc. It is important to review all of your medications with your surgeon and your anesthesiologist. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
Phentermine is not a blood thinner but I always consult with the patient's physician and my MD anesthesiologist regarding medications patients are taking on a regular basis before scheduling rhinoplasty surgery.
The nose is a three-dimensional structure, so it very difficult to give an opinion based on one photograph. Within some limits, the nose can be made bigger with cartilage grafting techniques. Computer imaging performed in the office setting would also be helpful to understand what can be ...
Judging from your photos, I highly recommend you make an appointment with your surgeon so he or she can examine you. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Noses are frequently the recipient of trauma, and injury. Sometimes a blow to the nose is strong enough to fracture the bones and displace the septum. When this happens the nose may look ‘crooked’ and the airway may worsen. An evaluation with an experienced physician/surgeon can help dete...
