If your eyebrows have a lower configuration on your face or if your eyes are somewhat deeper set, the brows can sometimes feel like they are heavy on the upper eyelid area. A surgical brow lift can improve this appearance and the options include coronal, pretrichial, endoscopic, temporal, and direct brow lifts. There is no way to determine the option that is best suited to treat your condition without a full examination. Although endoscopic brow lifts can have some of the more pleasing cosmetic results, this procedure does not work as well for patients who have heavier brow tissues/facial musculature, or for patients who have any degree of weakness of the forehead muscle. In these patients, there are still other surgical options that can give a very natural improvement and cosmetic result.Botox injections in carefully placed areas around the eyes can also serve to elevate the brows and open up the eye area somewhat. However, in some patients who feel that they constantly raise the brows, this is a secondary effect of an underlying droopy eyelid problem. In these cases, there is a subconscious lifting of the brows in order to try to elevate droopy eyelids, which can otherwise block the patient's vision or cause the sensation of heaviness. For these patients, it is not advisable to treat the forehead area with Botox, as this may cause temporary weakening of the forehead (frontalis) muscle and can potentially cause a temporary worsening of an underlying droopy eyelid condition. Make certain to consult with an experienced injector who is comfortable with evaluating the eyelid, brow, and forehead areas prior to your treatment.Best, Dr. Gregory Lewen
