I drove from Orlando to have filler for eye hollowness. My eyelids were asymmetrical. Dr Lewen added filler beneath the brow of the hollow eye. It was painless and he really took his time to make it look perfect. I’m very pleased!
About 10 years ago I lost a lot of weight when a family member was ill (a very unhealthy amount!). Unfortunately, even though I gained the weight back, my face - and specifically the area right below my eyebrow remained extremely hollowed out. At first I didn't understand what was making me look so incredibly old but after comparing photos of myself over the years, I realized it was my upper eye area -- my eyelids were now huge and all the fat had disappeared showing the bony ridge. Every doctor I asked in town said nobody does fillers to the upper eye hollow (I think its called the superior sulcus or something like that). I gave up. Then about a year ago, I began searching again. I found a doctor in CA with lots of photos and examples of the impact of addressing this area. I was thrilled but traveling to CA was not really an option. I then found a doctor in NYC and intended to make the journey up there this summer to get it done. I was hesitant as I really didn't want to get back on a plane with swollen eyes and had no real sense of how swollen I would be. As a last shot for someone local, I visited an occuplastic surgeon in my city in central FL - she claimed she could do it but "it would take a LOT of filler". I already knew from my research that, in fact, it takes very little filler in this area so I knew she was not an option. As a last minute fluke, I searched the state of FL again and I dont know how but came upon a facebook post about Dr Lewen -- on exactly the area I was concerned about! I couldnt believe it and was beyond ecstatic. Not only did he have experience in fillers to this area but he was also an Occuplastic surgeon which I already had determined was the only type of doctor I would trust doing fillers above my eyes. I reached out to Dr Lewen's office near Miami and spoke to an incredibly wonderful assistant named Brooke. She set me up for an appointment in early August. I arrived in the morning, completed some paperwork and was immediately shown into the treatment room where I met Dr Lewen. We discussed what I was trying to achieve and he went over the procedure in detail with me. I was comfortable and eager to get started. They put numbing cream on the outside tip of each eyebrow and allowed about 15 minutes for that to take effect. Then Dr Lewen used a blunt needle to enter the area from the far outside of each eyebrow - from there he put filler all the way through to the inside edge of each upper eye area. It did not hurt at all - less or on par with a botox shot after numbing cream. Dr Lewen said the upper eye hollow area typically takes 1-3 units total. He prefers to do it in two separate appointments so that refining can be done. I had 1 unit in each eye. You can see from the pics that I need to schedule a second appointment sometime soon to get a bit more in my left eye (I think right side in the pictures). The whole procedure took less than 30 minutes and I was in the car with my husband and kids to make the 3 hour journey back home. Even my little kids noticed the difference and complimented my eyes (big since they are boys who notice nothing!). Recovery: So the filler was put in on Friday morning. Saturday morning I woke up to VERY swollen eyes . By Monday morning, the swelling had gone down such that I was comfortable going out in sunglasses but would have had to make an excuse for why my eyes were still a bit swollen. After a week most the swelling had gone down and all would have been well had I not gotten a bit sick and had pink eye the week following. By 3 weeks all the initial swelling was gone. However, at the end of 3 weeks, I had one eye swell up slightly for a 3 days; I called Dr Lewens office and he facetimed me to discuss it. He suggested some allergy meds and said if it did not resolve, to call him back. It resolved and all was well. I highly and unreservedly recommend Dr Lewen and this procedure. It was incredible and I've had so many people ask what I've been doing because I look so much younger but they just cant figure out why. I am soo grateful to Dr Lewen and his wonderful assistant Brooke -- they rock!!! I've included 2 sets of before and after. The lighting stinks but hopefully they show the difference clearly enough.

I have been to Dr. Lewen several times. He did my eyelids two years ago and the results were outstanding. I have also seen him for Botox injections. Dr. Lewen is not like most doctors. He listens and communications very effectively. You always know what is going on and what to expect. He is very talented and his work is beautiful. He is a true artist. You will always receive five star care from him. Dr. Lewen also employs very professional and compassionate staff. They also go above and beyond to make your experience smooth. You will not get the level of care that Dr. Lewen and his staff provide many places in South Florida. I wish I had found him sooner than I did!
Such incredible results for Botox and Restylane. Dr. Lewen has such great energy. He is patient, careful and highly skilled. It was a pain-free experience, I do not look like I had "work done" at all, and the results have lasted far longer than I expected. I really cannot recommend Dr. Lewen enough.
As a physician myself, I can say that I am extremely judgmental of the care that I receive from other physicians. Dr Lewen was recommended to me by a colleague and I can say that the care that I received was top notch, not only by Dr. a Lewen himself but also from his attentive staff. Dr. Lewen's attention to detail was meticulous and the results have been fantastic. I have no reservations about referring him to others and have even referred my mother to him for a blepharoplasty.
Dr. Lewen takes the time to listen to his patients. Understanding what each patient needs, he works to help them achieve their goals, ultimately making each person look their best; refreshed, younger and natural!
Dr. Lewen did my eyelids almost a year ago. I really cannot say enough about Dr. Lewen and his amazing staff. He went out of his way time and time again to make sure I was educated and comfortable with the process from start to finish. He is a caring and extremely skilled Physician. My results are outstanding. I tell everyone that if I had known about Dr. Lewen sooner I would have had the procedure done years ago! There are so few doctors like Dr. Lewen anymore. He really cares for his patients and their results. I look forward to continuing with his practice and will not go anywhere else!
I have wanted to do my eyes for so long. By the time I had the nerve to do it, I felt I was too old to go under the knife. My dermatologist recommend that I see Dr. Lewen for no knife options for an eyelid lift. I am glad that I did. I had my temples injected with shots of facial filler. I also had some Restylane for right under my eyebrows. I had no idea these places could improve my eyelids so much. All my tennis friends can't believe I had so much improvement with out being cut. Dr. Lewen did a great job and I will be going back to his office for sure.
I had the pleasure of getting referred to Dr. Lewen by my optometrist who I have been seeing for the past 15 years. The optometrist assured me his work was always natural. I thought about getting some work done for the last year or two after my kids kept asking if I was tired when I would see them. I was hesitant to do any surgery as I did not want to have more feminine appearance after seeing some of my friends with less than stellar results. After my first meeting with the nice doctor I knew I had found my guy. He is kind and takes his time. He is straight forward and gave me exactly what I wanted. A well rested result. I could not be happier with my results. I saw Dr. Lewen today for my 2 month appointment and both himself and his staff greet me so warmly every single time, everyone knows my name and doesn't make you feel like that you had the surgery and then you are done. They give me the same wonderful care as when I came in the first day. You couldn't ask for more in my opinion. A great result with great people.
It is actually quite normal for people to have one side of the face that appears somewhat smaller than the other side. Frequently, the side that appears to be smaller may be the one that also appears to droop a little more as compared to the other side. The shape of lips can be a facial feature that is unique to an individual person, and I feel that this often gives special character to your face. Facial filler injections carefully placed around the mouth and lip areas are very effective to help create some additional balance, if this is something you are concerned about. This procedure can give you excellent, and natural-appearing results if performed by a skilled and experienced injector. I would be more cautious about pursuing any surgical lip treatments to address your concerns, as these procedures can sometimes run the risk of sacrificing some of your natural and unique facial expression. I'm very sorry to hear that you are not happy with the appearance of your upper eyelids after having a cosmetic blepharoplasty. Hollowness in the upper eyelids following blepharoplasty surgery is usually seen in people who have bone structure with eyes that are deeper set, or if too much tissue was removed during the surgery. The best way to correct this issue is with careful injection of a thin, hyaluronic acid-based facial filler to add more volume to the area beneath the brow. I only use Restylane or Restylane Silk for these injections and it is best to take a conservative approach as swelling can be very common in this area following such injections. I would caution you against having any permanent or thicker filler material injected into this area as such products can frequently produce an unnatural lumpiness that is very difficult to treat. Make sure that you see an Oculoplastic surgeon or another experienced facial injector who is comfortable treating this specific area of the face.Best, Dr. Gregory Lewen
Unfortunately, upper eyelid drooping is a known complication that can occur in some cases following cataract surgery, or any other eye surgery for that matter. It is thought to be related to a stretching of the main muscle that lifts the eyelid, and caused by the speculum that is used during eye surgery in order to hold the eyelids open. A drooping of the actual margin of the eyelid can result, and this is referred to as ptosis of the eyelid. Aside from the visual complaints that can result due to a droopy eyelid partially blocking the vision, many patients will also complain of headaches and brow strain as they may be forced to use the brow muscles to try and pull the eyelid up high enough to see well. This can typically become more of an issue towards the end of the day when the brow muscles start to fatigue. Dry eye issues can also be a common cause of temporary eye discomfort following any eye surgery, and over the counter artificial tears can frequently be used to get effective relief. I would advise having your mother consult with a qualified Oculoplastic surgeon for a full evaluation of her condition in order to determine the specific type of ptosis repair surgery that would be indicated to correct her condition.Best, Dr. Gregory Lewen
Hooding of skin in the upper eyelids is best addressed with an eyelid surgery called blepharoplasty. The surgery involves carefully measuring the excess skin in the upper eyelids and removing this tissue in a careful manner in order to sculpt the eyelids and create less heaviness. Generally, the average healing time for most healthy people is about 1-2 weeks with some degree of normal bruising and swelling to be expected in this period. If you are in medical school, then you likely spend a large amount of time reading and/or on the computer. If your eyes frequently feel tired and heavy, it is very likely that you may also have some degree of a dry eye condition. You may consider using some over the counter artificial tears or lubricant drops (not Visine) a few times throughout the day and see if this helps your comfort level. Even if you do decide to proceed with blepharoplasty surgery, dry eyes can be a common side effect in the immediate post-operative period and it is usually helpful to use some drops through your healing process for best results and comfort.Best, Dr. Gregory Lewen
Most fellowship-trained Oculoplastic surgeons see patients with lagophthalmos on a regular basis and should be quite competent at treating this condition. After researching for doctors with qualified experience and training, one of the most important factors to consider when making a choice about the surgeon who is best for you is deciding who makes you feel comfortable. In-person consultations are really invaluable so that you can get the true feel for the physician and the staff that will be caring for you and holding your hand through the surgical experience. Otherwise, you may try to get a sense for the culture and personality of the the office that best suits your needs from online reviews and other informational websites. All the best, Dr. Gregory Lewen
