Fat transfer gone wrong, can it be corrected? 3 weeks post-op. (Photos)

Question

I have undergone fat transfer by a local surgeon. I specified I only wanted to fill hollow under my eyes, but he ended up overfilling my whole face. I am now 3 weeks post operation. My under eyes are still swollen and my face look very fat. Is there a chance to go back near normal by liposuction ?

Fortunately you look okay. But I have rarely seen a patient who had fat grafting to the face and  thought it was worthwhile m. Many surgeons perform fat  grafting during a facelift. Costs a lot more but does nothing in my opinion.

HI Heba Fouad,You look quite nice after your procedure, despite the swelling.  You should rest assured that your face swelling will continue to improve over the next several months, a little every day.  Much of the transferred fat will get resorbed and you will be left with a nice result with the fat that remains in the places it was put.Best wishes,Dr. Jay

You look quite nice post-op in terms of symmetry and facial shape.   At 3 weeks you may still be swollen, and some of the fat will continue to reabsorb for up to 2-3 months, so you should continue to go down in the following weeks.  LIposuction after a fat transfer is not a great option as the fat is in may different tissue planes.

Most plastic surgeons will slightly overfill as not all the fat survives or "takes".  You may also still have some post op swelling present. It takes a few months to determine the end result or how much fat truly survived.  I would wait  a couple months before deciding on any further procedures. You may be happy with the result.

After lipotransfer, the face and surrounding areas can remain swollen for weeks.  I would not make harsh judgements about your face and final outcome until 3-6 months after your procedure.  You may be pleasantly surprised about your outcome.
