Mastopexy fat transfer- tunnelling and ugly scar forming - what are my options? (Photo)

Question

Nearly 7 weeks post mastopexy fat transfer- my left breast is doing great but my right breast has been trouble from the start with bleeding, then a hematoma, weeks of draining and now it’s finally at a point where it’s closing up. It is sure looking like it will be a rough area if it ever closes! I see my surgeon for follow up this week but would like other surgeon thoughts and ideas! I’m packing it using polysporin. I’ve got all kinds of tunnels too.

Thanks for the question. Sometimes, after a mastopexy, a hematoma and wounds can occur. It can be a struggle on the breast and the patient to have these types of issues after a surgery. Continue cleaning the opening as directed by your surgeon. Inform your surgeon immediately if it begins to drain again or you experience fever or redness at the site. Once healed, a scar revision may be appropriate.

I understand your concern. While it is common to have a superficial separation of the wound at the T junction following a breast lift surgery, this must be closely monitored and make sure it does not become infected. You should follow your plastic surgeon's post operative wound care management instructions. 
  
If you are concerned, it is best that you visit your plastic surgeon to have yourself properly assessed. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

mostly require patience as it will heal.  You can spend money on hyperbaric oxygen or fancy wound healing technologies or save your money and be patient and allow your wounds to heal with TLC.  I prefer to save my money for other things.

Thank you for sharing this question and your photos.  Having complications after surgery is frustrating for both the patient and the surgeon.  You will heal up with time and believe it or not, the scar will end up looking fairly decent 6-9 months down the road.  After complications such as hematoma and some delayed healing, the affected breast can take months to really settle down.  The swelling will take longer to resolve and the open areas will eventually close and the scar will contract down.  Even the very best surgeons have complications so keeping a good relationship with your surgeon during the recovery process is key.  Make sure you have regular follow up appointments to monitor the progress of recovery.  Scars take 9-12 months to fully mature, so don't rush into any type of scar revision surgery.  Time and patience are your best friends right now.  Best wishes on a speedy recovery and great result.
