Cheek lift eye complications (Photo)

Question

Hello, my right eyeball has been swollen with a jelly like substance around the bottom near the lid which is drooping. My surgeon put tape to coax the lid back up but I’m worried about the eyeball. Is this common? What could be the cause? Thank you

Swelling and a drooping lid with a jelly-like substance around the eye can have various causes. It’s crucial to consult with your surgeon promptly to determine the underlying issue. Possibilities include postoperative swelling, hematoma, infection, or other complications. The use of tape to address lid position might be a temporary measure.

Chemosis is a swelling of the eye surface membranes due to an accumulation of fluid and is not uncommon after lower eyelid surgery. In most cases, it will spontaneously resolve in the early postoperative period without issues. It's important to continue following up with your surgeon to make sure everything is healing as expected and this resolves with time.
