Swelling after lipo, 20 days post op?

Question

Hello, How do you know when your swelling is gone or getting better? Not in days or months... But Physically how can you tell that the area is full of fluid not fat? I have EXACTLY the same love handles/saddle bags before and after lipo. Can that really be possible after 2 1/2 weeks? I thought I would be able to see SOME change any change at all. I am 5'5 108#

It is not at all common to see results at 2.5 weeks after liposuction.  In fact it is more common for you to feel like you are the same or worse than you were before surgery.  If the skin and fat feel firm, then there is swelling which will slowly resolve over 6 months.  It is very common to feel this type of firmness in the skin at 3 months.  Do not despair, your situation is completely normal.

Although most of the swelling has subsided in about six weeks you'll see improvement for up to six months after liposuction.

Photos would be very helpful in addressing your question.  In general, you are very early in your recovery and swelling can significantly distort the final appearance of your body.  Communicate your concerns with your surgeon and give it more time.  Good luck

It takes 3-6 months sometimes longer for all the swelling to go down.  I suggest exercise, diet, massage, and considering ultrasound or radiofrequency treatments (velashape, venus legacy) at this time.  Best, Dr. Emer.

It takes up to 6 months for swelling to completely resolve after liposuction.  Swelling can fluctuate at times based on your activity level, diet, etc.  Compression garments are often recommended to help control swelling and and support tissues as they heal.  If you have seen no improvement since surgery I recommend returning to your surgeon for an evaluation.

Since liposuction is an invasive procedure, there will be swelling, and this swelling can make things look the same or even worse for a month or so. Just try to be patient and wear the compression garment. The area can shrink and tighten over 6 months. Is it possible that you might not see a difference? Well if you didn't have much fat to begin with, then there is a possibility of not seeing a big result, but that is something to discuss with you surgeon while reviewing before and after photos after six months..

At three weeks post liposuction, you are still very swollen. It will take at least 4-6 months for the swelling to settle down. Best of luck.
