Your scar is still very new, however at 3 months post-op, it is safe to start a course of laser therapy to reduce pigmentation. Hopefully you’re not experiencing textural abnormalities, or a “raised” scar. If you are, you may want to start with a silicone-based cream treatment first, to smooth the scar. Protecting your scar from UV light (sun exposure) is critical during the first 6 months, as this is a major contributing factor to red pigment in scars. As far as laser therapy, Fraxel (Re:Store Dual or Re:Pair) can help reduce pigmentation and textural abnormalities in scars. I would suggest you see a physician who specializes in laser therapies, and has a variety of lasers to choose from, that way you can be sure you’re receiving the most effective laser therapies. Some other types of lasers we use in scar care include: Portrait PSR, Q-Switched Nd:Yag (Medlite c6 or Alex TriVantage), VBeam Perfecta, Starlux IPL, Smoothbeam, and eTwo.
