Why do I have "lump" on my forehead after having Dysport injections 10 hours ago?

Hi, Thank you for your post. Usually the lumps that you see after Botox or Dysport disappear in less than a half hour. It sounds like what you are describing is bruising. I would follow up with your injector.

The lump is not from the Dysport and it likely represents a small hematoma or swollen area from  the needle trauma. Make your injector aware of the situation. Next time they should be more careful or use a smaller needle.

This may be due to the injection procedure. I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation. It can take 1-2 weeks for final results with Botox. Best, Dr. Emer

What you are describing , sounds like a small blood cloth under the skin, that can happen.  Use some hot compress and it will resolve in couple of days.

The lump on the forehead is not due to the fact that Dysport was used instead of Botox. It likely represents a bruise/hematoma related to the trauma of the injection. If it does not improve over the next few days, please followup with your injector.

Thank you for your question. Let me put your mind at ease. This was not due to the difference between Botox and Dysport. It is most likely due to needle trauma and/or possible hematoma from the injections. This should resolve within a day or two. Without seeing a photo, its hard to say.  This sounds like this might it could be a small hematoma on the injection site which will resolve itself in 1-2 weeks. 

Dysport (like Botox) is dissolved in bacteriastatic saline.  It always leaves a little lump upon injection.  The fluid is reabsorbed by the body within 24 hours.  Your injector may have dissolved the neurotoxin in a large volume of saline which mean each injection would have more fluid to be absorbed.  I bet the lumps are gone by now.

Good Day. Than you for your question.Most "lumps" after a neuromodulator (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) is due to the volume of the dilution combined with the muscle relaxant. The more fluid added, the more likely to have a lump and the more spread of the muscle relaxant around the injection site. However, the fluid causing the "lump" in this instance resolves in 15-60 minutes.Allergan studies have shown a dilution of 1:1 to 10:1 has the same amount of muscle relaxation.Since your lumps are lasting longer than one hour, it narrows down to two options: a hematoma or bruising focus, or an allergic response. If you have a lump at each site, it seems very remote that this vascular or muscle trauma would occur at each injection site.Although very rare, you may have an allergic response to the substance injected. A trial of oral anti-histamine can be done now. I strongly recommend returning to the injector and have them examine you to determine the cause and treatment related to the etiology. Please update us on the cause, since this is a reportable response.Best of Luck.
