Thank you for your question. TCA is not my first choice. It has its place, but ice pick scars respond best to fractional CO2, or RF based technologies I have worked with. I hope this helps!
TCA Cross works very well to reduce ice pick scars on the skin. I would combine the TCA Cross with subcision and Ematrix fractional RF. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
TCA CROSS, which typically utilizes 100 percent TCA, can improve ice pick scars, as well as deep, wide pores. The strong acid wounds the inside walls of the ice pick scar or dilated pore, allowing the contraction of wound healing to pull the walls together--ultimately tightening the treated pores and shrinking the ice pick pits. More than one treatment is generally required for optimal results and, rather than complete clearance, significant improvement can more realistically be anticipated. Be sure to seek consultation and treatment with a board certified physician with experience and expertise in all forms of scar treatments.
All scarring treatments give improvement but not cure. Even this technique only gives a percentage improvement and will require multiple treatments or be combined with other options. I suggest you see an acne scarring or laser expert for treatments and do not compromise your care for cost or distance. Best, Dr. Emer.
I generally use 80-100%, 70% in darker skin types. It works well. Ideally 2-3 sessions are needed, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Apart from TCA CROSS I also use either a 1- 2 mm punch excision, then resurface with erbium or CO2 laser. Have a look at my before and afters to see the difference TCA can make for nose scars. One of my all time favourite treatments. Dr Davin Lim Laser dermatologist, BRISBANE, Australia.
