A droopy lid can last for quite a while after any intraocular surgery. Having the eye closed more is actually protective to the healing cornea. As it heals, the lid may come back up. At times however the muscle gets stretched during the surgery from the speculum we use to keep the eye open. When this occurs, it may remain low. Wait at least 9-12 months and then see an oculoplastic surgeon to see if you would need a repair.
There are several different causes for unilateral drooping eyelid. A common cause is trauma after eye surgery from the speculum used to keep the eye open. Usually this trauma is minimal and results in swelling, causing the eyelid to lower, rather than permanent damage to the eyelid.I would discuss your concerns with your eye doctor and have frequent follow up exams. If after 6 months the eyelid is still droopy you should be evaluated by a plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon to discuss treatment options. Best Regards,Dr. Stutman
