Answer: Drive home after VASER Lipo?
I never recommend driving home after any surgical procedure but it is possible after liposuction or any procedure done under a local anesthetic. If you are doing a small area and are having the procedure done strictly under a local anesthetic, you can technically drive yourself home because you have not taken anything to alter your state of conscience. Now, lidocaine, which is the agent in local anesthesia which causes the numbing, can be lethal to you at a certain dosage based upon body weight. It can cause you to light headed, dizzy and even death. This is why I do not recommend you drive after any surgical procedure. If you are undergoing the procedure under an IV sedation or a general anesthetic then you definitely cannot drive. Use caution as you are undergoing a surgical procedure and recovery is important. If you do not have someone staying with you for the first 24 hours I will not perform the procedure no matter what type of anesthesia. Be caution with any doctor that does not take these precautions as liposuction is an elective procedure and your health is most important.

Answer: Driving after surgery
I do not let patients go home after surgery by themselves. They have to have an escort to go home from my office.

Answer: You should not drive home after surgery
If anyone tells you that it is okay to drive home after Vaser liposuction is giving you poor advice. It is irresponsible and puts your safety and the safety of other drivers at risk. Do the right thing. Have someone drive you home.
