It’s been exactly one week since I’ve had my hair transplant. I’ve been washing my hair everyday but I still have a lot of dried blood! Is this normal? Or do I need to be firmer when washing?

Hello, after seeing dry blood on your transplanted area I understand your concern but its not as bad as you might think.  Wash the area with shampoo, I recommend Baby shampoo, gently by putting shampoo and water on a sponge and wash the area with gentle a rolling motion. Do not use your fingernails to pick the scabs off. If you are still concerned after another week or so I would suggest contacting your surgeon. Please let me know if you have further concerns/questions.

Do not pick at those scabs or you risk disrupting the grafts. It will eventually resolve. You could dab a little hydrogen peroxide to get rid of the dried blood.

After the first week you can wash more aggressively using the balls of your fingers (don't pick with fingernails).  If the blood and scabs are refractory, you could call your surgeon's office and ask for a more formal hair wash.

The blood and crusts from the recipient area should have been washed off within the first day of the surgery. Once the crusts are formed, then you have a cosmetic problem for a few weeks until adequate washing can remove them
