My friend got surgery with him and loved the result but I feel a lil undecided because they kind of waned to to pressure me by giving them a deposit and free stuffs the day of the consult if not the price would go up and they promote themselves a lot so I looked for the doctors board and said that has none now Yelp has good reviews but I’ve been looking more and he has some bad review but not on bbl only tummy tucks. Should I trust him?

Answer: Board Certification If you are told the price will go up if you don’t sign up that day or are offered free gifts then I wouldn’t have surgery at that clinic. There is no need for pressure. You need time to consider your options, see other physicians and talk to friends and family and a high pressure selling practice is not the norm. So for that reason alone I would walk away and see someone else. As for board certification and California certification they are two totally different things. Every physician practicing medicine in the state of California is required to have a state license but not every doctor practing cosmetic surgery in the state of California is a board certified plastic surgeon—they might not even be a plastic surgeon! If you have a state license it just means you are a physician and are licensed to practice medicine in the state but it does not prevent you from performing plastic surgery. So you might have a family doctor who is licensed in the state but is not trained to perform cosmetic surgery but does so anyway. The best way to assure that you are getting a plastic surgeon who has gone through a rigorous training program, is ethical and safe is to see a plastic surgeon who has been boarded by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). If you check with the ABPS they will give you a list of board certified physicians in your area and I would begin there and have some consultations and see where you feel the most comfortable. Having plastic surgery should be a pleasant, relaxed experience and not the same as buying a used car.

Answer: The importance of board certification Hello and thank you for the question. It's crucial to make sure your surgeon has gone through a formal plastic surgery training and is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery:"The American Board of Plastic Surgery aims to produce safe, ethical plastic surgeons with an extensive knowledge of the entire spectrum of plastic surgery, who are able to represent our specialty in the highest standards. All patients seeking plastic surgery procedures should do their homework before choosing their surgeon. Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is a qualification not easily obtained, which demonstrates a high level of training and education, necessary for optimal results and patient satisfaction."Best,Pejman Aflaki, M.D.Johns Hopkins-trained plastic surgeon
