I've had a couple of dermatologist recommend CO2 laser for the pitted scars on my face (ice pick, box car, and rolling), but I'm terrified of the reviews that I've read. Is it possible to do CO2 laser on only part of the face, for example the cheeks (this is where my worst pitted scarring is) or would that make things altogether uneven?
Answer: CO2 laser resurfacing for acne scars Yes, CO2 laser is wonderful for treating acne scars and it is possible to treat certain areas. I offer CO2 laser resurfacing for cheeks, perioral (around the mouth), periocular (around the eyes), forehead and nose- those are the areas I divide the face into. I routinely perform full face CO2 laser resurfacing, however, I also routinely perform CO2 laser resurfacing around the eyes, mouth and cheeks as individual areas. Results are fantastic and there is no 'unevenness' noted when performed correctly.

Answer: Yes, Co2 can be done for spot treatment. It is recommended to air with TCA cross as well. Fractional CO2 laser is an excellent tool for skin rejuvenation in our center in Santa Monica. We use the fractional multi-depth ablative approach to help resurface the skin, recontour acne scars, improve incisional plastic surgery scars, and reduce surface irregularities from skin tone to dark pigmentation. Our approach utilizes a multi-depth approach that targets melanocytes in the epidermis and collagen fibroblasts in the dermis. This approach can be combined with a TCA Peel in a process known as a sapphire peel. Fractional laser is excellent for acne scars and contour scars in the skin. Patients are advised to undergo skin protocols with Melarase creams before and after treatment to help reduce pigmentation. Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads can seriously improve surface sun damage and UV related pigmentation. After the laser, we expect redness for a few weeks as the skin improves. PRP and Hydrafacial enzyme facials can further improve skin quality after fractional co2. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: CO2 laser for portion of face CO2 laser resurfacing is the best method to improve acne scarring! Although you can have it done on limited areas of the face, I would not recommend it for your issue. CO2 laser can cause a bit of permanent lightening of the skin color, which is not a problem if the treatment is performed on the entire face and blended well along the jawline so that there is no line noticeable where the laser began and ended. Having CO2 laser only on the cheeks makes this blending impossible unless you naturally have very light, ivory skin. The only isolated areas of the face that are lasered separately are the lower eyelids (to eradicate the crepey skin) and, less commonly due to the color blending issue, the area around the mouth (to improve the lines around the lips). My strong recommendation is to find a board certified plastic surgeon who has experience using CO2 laser for your best result. Best wishes to you!

Answer: Yes but see a specialist Yes, absolutely we do treat scars and smaller areas of concern with CO2 laser. However, in the hands of an expert practitioner the edges are blended to minimise any demarcation. Best wishes, Shobhan.

Answer: Co2 Fractional spot treatments Yes, it is, in fact if you are on the conservative side, one can do small areas, in low density, being very careful to blend in the surrounding skin. For mixed scarring, the idea is to go deep, but have the coverage as low. This will give you better results, and faster healing times. This 'spot' treatment with fractional laser has been well described by a colleague of mine, Dr Adrian Lim in a recent paper. All the best,Dr Davin Lim Laser and aesthetic dermatologistBrisbane, Australia.
