I have severe Syringoma & Milia around my eyes.What is the best way to remove these with the lowest rate of reoccurrence?(photo)

Thank you for your question.  Syringomas are benign deep dermal growths.  Due to their location in the skin, superficial treatments like peels, paring them down will just remove the top of the lesion and will not remove the location where the lesions are coming form leading to high rates of return.  The typical standard of care for syringomas is electrocautery, as there is low risk of scarring with good resolution of the syringomas.  However since electrocautery is a superficial procedure as well you will likely need to maintain treatment with this technique.  A more aggressive approach would be using a CO2 laser either fractionated or pinhole to destroy the deep dermal tumor.  This too will require multiple treatments but is likely to lead to higher cure rates.  Milia on the other hand can be removed by manual extraction as these are superficial growths.  Regards, Dr. Matt Elias

Much easier to visualise than conceptualise. I would perform either a CO2 or Erbium laser procedure, followed by close follow up. Milia are super easy to treat- prevention via vitamin A creams, treatment with a sterile 25 g needle with extractor. Prevention of Syringomas are harder. Some recur within 6 months, some in 5- 10 years. The use of BOTOX can help as this decrease sweat production in the area, hence reducing syringoma recurrence (as these are benign sweat gland tumors)All the best, Dr Davin LimLaser DermatologistBrisbane, Australia.
