There is a doctor offering dimpleplasty using cone threads in my area and will not show before and afters. This is a groupon offer, so i am totally skeptical, plus i can't find anything about this “procedure” anywhere. Is this an unproven ill advised way to obtain dimples?

I would go with dimples first for several reasons. One is your anatomy will be intact before the braces , two is because it's annoying to work in the mouth with braces and having the suture or the sponges catch on hooks. Wait at least a month or two before getting braces.
