Differences Between Palomar Lux Lasers?

Question

What is the difference between the Palomar Lux 2940, Lux 1540,and the Lux 1440? I have mild acne scarring and discoloration on my cheeks, forehead, and around the mouth. I have seen how intense lasers can be and am looking for something that's not so harsh.

This is a great question!There are endless brands of lasers on the market, each claiming to be superior to the others for all kinds of treatments.  The numbers on the palomar "lux" series refer to the wavelength of the laser.  The 2940nm erbium:yag laser is a fractional ablative laser, meaning that it vaporizes thousands of tiny microcolumns in the skin.  Depending on energy settings, downtime can range from 2-7 days and the results are most dramatic with this treatment.  The 1540 erbium:glass laser is a fractional nonablative laser, meaning that the skin is coagulated not vaporized.  This means a shorter (1-2 day) recovery without the oozing and weeping skin of an ablative laser.  The skin is red and puffy after this treatment.  The 1440nm erbium:glass laser is an older wavelength from palomar, not as common.  It is also a fractional nonablative laser. The 1540 laser is a great, safe laser and the most popular in my practice because of the minimal downtime and gentle treatment.  Best wishes.

These wavelength targets different skin concerns. For your specific skin condition, we can use Lux 1540, to address both skin discoloration, as well as, acne scarring.
