When will i be able to breath after septoplasty? 2 days post op.

i did my septoplasty 2 days ago. and i had to stay at the hospital for a day, My nose was stuffed with packing and the whole day was terrible. the next day they removed the left packing ( my septum was leaned toward the right side). and let me go home and told me to come 2 days later to remove the right side and after 7 days of the surgery they will remove the splints. my question is ,they removed the packing but i still cant breath. when will i be able to breath from my nose?

Dear Maruf,
Thanks for your question. Your breathing usually significantly improves after your nasal splints are removed 7 days after surgery. You can have intermittent swelling afterwards that you make breathing on some days worse but overall it should be better than before surgery. Hope this helps.

The short answer is you will get some air intermittently starting the second week after surgery usually. It generally can take 6 weeks to three months for maximal improvement. Most people who have the surgery are better sooner as the nasal airway was pretty poor before surgery, making the corrected airway even with swelling better than what he or she had beforehand. In your case, between the packing and the stents, you will have an obstrucion until they are removed. Hang in there!!!
