I suggest you see an expert to determine what type of hair loss you have. Even for alopecia areata at least 3-6 steroid treatments are needed.  Best, Dr. Emer.

In my opinion, cortisone works well for certain types of scarring Alopecia. One needs to be concerned that Cortisone can be absorbed into the systemic circulation. Vitamin D and calcium should be taken at the same time. Cortisone injections should be limited in number. Since you describe a multifactorial hair loss, you should consider minoxidil, low level laser, and platelet rich plasma. The PRP will thicken the hair and decrease hair loss. If the hair loss is less than three years, you may see some regrowth. Find a hair expert with experience in PRP. Ask to see photos. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hair regrowth does not occur in scarring alopecia so the goal to have in mind is not regrowth. Cortisone injections for scarring alopecias are among the most effective treatments... far superior to PRP.  There are other treatments as well that can be considered but it depends on what type of scarring alopecia you have.
