Botox mild side effects: could I be developing an allergy?

Question

I have had Botox multiple times for crows feet, and between the brows. This last time, I noticed mild side effects within 10 minutes such as: dry mouth, flushing/warm skin, and tiredness. I had an overall uneasy feeling which led to a panic attack. I only had 15 units for crow's feet. I did not experience hives. I did not end up in the hospital for any other complication. My question is - could this be the start of an allergy? Is there danger of these effects worsening each time I have Botox?

Hello and thank you for your question.  I understand your concern, however there doesn't seem to be any cause for concern.  What you experienced it more consistent with anxiety than an allergy.  Although unlikely, if you are concerned about reacting again, you can always ask to stay at your doctor's office for a  little while after your next treatment just for piece of mind.  Best of luck!

Allergy to Botox is very rare.  It is much more likely that the symptoms you experienced were coincidental, and not related to your treatment.  The symptoms you mentioned are not typically related to Botox.

Hi, your symptoms sound more like a systemic response to botox rather than actual allergy. The area around the eyes has more accessible blood vessels than the other areas where botox is injected, and it is possible that your injector placed some botox directly into the vessel. I have seen one other time this has happened to a friend of mine, but to a greater systemic effect. She became very ill. She also used an injector that purchased her "botox" from outside the US. 
I would definitely follow up with your injector immediately to let them know what has happened and be seen by a doctor if the symptoms are still present.

It sounds as though you had a coincidental anxiety attack at the same time as your injections.Botox itself doesn’t have those kinds of side effects.Best. Dr Brecht
