I suggest seeing a hair loss expert now to evaluate and go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options and any concerns. You would need to continue using finasteride/minoxidil to keep your results. There are great non-invasive options like prp/progesterone and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
You would benefit greatly from PRP treatments and LLLT (low-level laser therapy) for stimulation of hair growth and prevention of hair loss. I strongly suggest against using finasteride, as the sexual and mental side effects (depression, low libido) can be devastating. Especially given your young age, the erectile dysfunction associated with finasteride can be much greater than someone who is older. I have seen too many men suffer from ED as a results of finasteride. In the meantime, use a shampoo that fight DHT build up in the scalp, such as ketoconazole 2%. Minoxidil will work temporarily, but hair loss resumes once you stop using it.
Using Finasteride and Minoxidil together is perfectly fine, many doctors prescribe the two to be used together by patients. Generally you would stay on them indefinitely, because when you quit taking them most people see a large increase in hair loss.
I'd recommend switching to organic products for your shampoo and conditioner, and to look in to preventative medications like Finasteride and Minoxidil which has been proven to halt and even reverse hair loss. PRP would also be an option for you. Before starting any medications it is best to check with your physician.
Your biggest enemy is the progressivethinning leading to a balding pattern that is not evident at this point intime. The degree of thinning that you are experiencing would suggest thatyou should see a doctor who has a HAIRCHECK instrument and will most likely will getBulk Measurements of your hair to determine the degree of the thinningthat you are presently having. If the diagnosis is early genetic hair loss(the most common cause of hair loss in young men), then the best treatmentwould be the drug finasteride which is highly effective in men of your ageand may not only stop the hair loss but possibly reverse it. If you aredeveloping a more advanced balding pattern the best test to getwill determine the Bulk Measurements of your hair and this will show, overa one-year time frame, how effective the treatment will be. Once you knowthis information, then you and your doctor need to develop a MASTER PLANwhich will define what you need to do over the years to come.
Although not always definitive, scalp biopsy is relatively quick and easy and can rule out certain pathology if present. Proceeding with this has little downside, and may answer some of your questions.
If you have been using minoxidil for a year and have developed minoxidil dependent hairs with this drug, then stopping it will cause you to lose those hairs
The reason of the hair loss may related with factors other than genetic like connective tissue disorders, stress, anemia, lupus, medications, hormonal and seasonal changes, nutritional problems, severe diets, bulimia, protein/calorie deficiency, zinc and essential amino-acid deficiency,...
