I had botox injections in my forehead and between my brows. I've had excessive tearing for a couple months. How can I avoid it?

I've gotten botox for years and this is the first time this has happened. It is getting better now that the botox is starting to wear off. Is there something I should do or share with the injector the next time? Perhaps wait longer, get less units or avoid the area between the brow? Thanks in advance.

I suggest seeing an expert.  This is likely not due to botox injections.  If anythnig botox would stop the tearing process.  Best, Dr. Emer.

I don't think that I've ever seen this side effect after Botox.  I would discuss this with your injector prior to your next treatment.  My philosophy on Botox is to do gentle, precise, conservative injections for the most natural results and to minimize any risk for side effects.  We would be happy to see you in our Lone Tree office if needed.Regards,Dr. Ort

This is a very rare side-effect and most likely due to injection technique--injecting too close to the tear duct. Discuss this with your physician and see if that can be avoided in the future

This is a very uncommon side effect of Botox and the possible mechanisms may be weakening of the lower lid or a disturbance in the draining of the tear ducts located at the inner corner of the eyelids. I would definitely alert your physician to this issue as it needs to be evaluated and perhaps the technique of injection needs to be adjusted during your next treatment.  Best of Luck   Dr Harrell

Injection technique likely allowed some Botox to run into the lacrimal system and this somehow is causing the tearing.     There needs to be an injection technique that stays away from the lacrimal apparatus and the tearing will not reoccur.   My Best,   Dr Commons
