Hello Generous420962 in South Burlington, VT, Thank you for your question regarding that fact that you are 2 days until surgery and you have "more scars than anticipated" and are there any other options. Thank you for your history and picture. There are 6 different types of thigh lifts: crescent, modified vertical medial, longitudinal vertical medial, complete medial, horizontal hip lift, and outer thigh lift. To determine the best thigh lift/reduction surgery, lets first analyze what type of thighs you have. Based on your pictures, you have cutis pleonasmus (excess skin) and dermatocholosis (loose skin) from the groin to below the knees. Most of your thigh sin and fat excess is in your inner or medial thigh. Based on your pictures you have Type 4 thighs. By definition, patients with Type 4 thighs have moderate skin laxity, moderate stria, moderate wrinkles, moderate lipodystrophy from groin to below inner knee. Since you have excess skin to your inner knees, you need an incision from the groin to just under the inner knees. This type of thigh reduction is called a longitudinal vertical medial thigh lift/reduction. Anything short of this incision pattern will yield suboptimal results. Thigh liposuction, a crescent thigh lift, mini or limited T incision thigh lift will not work. You simply have have too much excess inner thigh skin and some fat. If your plastic surgeon follows the pattern in your pictures, you should achieve outstanding results. As some plastic surgeons say, "the longer the scar, the better the results." Good luck with your thighplasty. I hope that I have answered your question regarding that fact that you are 2 days until surgery and you have "more scars than anticipated" and are there any other options. If you have any more questions regarding the thigh lift, thigh reduction, vertical thigh lift, medial thigh lift, spiral thigh lift, crescent thigh lift, or thigh lipo, contact an experienced plastic surgeon. Please seek an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon with significant experience performing thigh lifts. Do your research. Make sure your chosen plastic surgeon has performed at least 100 thigh lifts. Make sure they have the before-and-after pictures to prove it. Carefully examine their before-and-after pictures and check their reviews on RealSelf. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen, MD, MBA.
