My nose swelling is increasing after initial improvement and getting worse daily after sleeping (Photo)

Question

The septum of the nose is broken and the bridge has collapsed after failed rhinoplasty. Because of that, the air that is sucked in irritates the septum and overall nose body causing suffocation and swelling. Therefore, the swelling is increasing. Should I breathe through my mouth and how at night? Please tell me about it because I don't want to breathe through my nose till the swelling settlement.

Thank you for your query. Some swelling is normal after rhinoplasty and can last for several months. Excessive swelling and “collapse” are not normal once the initial swelling has gone down. You will need to have your surgeon do a full examination and get a CT scan or MRI if needed. And it is not possible to control how you breathe at night while you sleep. If your nostrils are collapsing when you breathe in, you may apply breathe right strips for symptomatic relief. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph
