Should my mole removal site be white? (Photo)

Question

I had two moles removed several days ago. One seems to be doing fine, while the other hurts quite a bit and has now turned white. Is this a sign of infection? I've been cleaning it as my dermatologist recommend, once daily, putting Vaseline and a bandaid on it.

Thank you for your question and photograph.  Based on your picture, your mole removal site does not look infected. The redness is from the trauma of the shave removal, while the white stuff in the center is likely early scar formation mixed with the Vaseline causing a sticky gelatinous tissue to form.  I would recommend you wipe your wound clean of this material with a gauze and continue your wound care therapy.  If you are unable to clear the wound of this scar tissue then see your dermatologist about having it professionally managed.

Hello Mee_egan,If you are concerned about an infection, I would recommend you call your physician.  Signs of infection include increasing pain, drainage, redness, and swelling.  I hope this helps and good luck.
